| 内容記述 | People used stencil-dyeing sample books during the Edo and Meiji periods to select patterns when ordering stencil-dyed kosode and kimonos. The author conducted research on stencil-dyeing sample books held by the Edo-Tokyo Museum and the National Museum of Japanese History from July to August 2025 to produce an overview. As a result, details regarding the period of production and actual usage became clear, demonstrating that stencil-dyeing sample books had already been established by the early 19th century. Additionally, based on the classification of stencil-dyeing sample books, the subjects referred to as sarasa-zome and jōdai-zome and their changes over time were clarified. Furthermore, changes in the terminology used for similar patterns were examined, elucidating the classification of stencil patterns and their evolution over time. | |||||||||||||
