| 内容記述 | This study examines fukusa, square silk cloths used to cover gifts in traditional Japanese gift-giving ceremonies. It focuses on the late Edo to Meiji periods, from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century, during which fukusa were in widespread use. Descriptions of fukusa dimensions and size classifications were extracted from historical documents and analyzed to clarify how their dimensions and standards were defined in each period. In addition, existing examples were examined to elucidate changes in the dimensions and forms of fukusa, thereby identifying the standard dimensions unique to each era. This study further discusses the historical background and factors underlying the establishment of specific dimensions and forms. The findings presented in this paper contribute to the chronological identification of fukusa produced from the late Edo period through the Meiji period. |
